ASCE hosted its first ever Kickoff Barbeque on Oct. 16. This event was held on campus at Cal Poly Pomona in the Engineering Meadow in hopes of bringing out many freshmen and other club members to come out and socialize while enjoying hot dogs cooked by ASCE. By having these one-on-one interactions between members encourages them to get involved early and be active in the club throughout the year. This event prove to be a huge success, with over 100 members and interested students in attendance so ASCE looks forward to bringing back a similar event in future years.
ASCE is organizing a great event for the entire CE department this quarter; especially for those who are graduating Winter 2015 or sooner. The event is co-hosted with ASCE's San Bernardino and Riverside Counties Younger Member Forum and the invitation is extended to engineers from industry. Thus this also makes the event a great networking opportunity. This event is perfect for anyone who takes pride in their profession and believes in our duty as engineers to the public that we serve.

About the Order and Ceremony: The Order of the Engineer was initiated in the United States to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession, to bridge the gap between training and experience, and to present to the public a visible symbol identifying the engineer. The Ring Ceremony is the public induction of candidates into the Order of the Engineer, during which the engineer candidates formally accept the Obligation of an engineer and receive a stainless steel ring to be worn as a symbol on the fifth finger of the working hand. Wearing the ring on this finger serves as a constant reminder of your ethical duty to the public and its safety every time you have to sign plans or other documents.

The ASCE Los Angeles Younger Member Forum hosted their 15th Annual Student Night and Job Fair on March 7th, 2014 at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. Over 62 Cal Poly Pomona civil engineering students attended the magnificent event.
The event consisted of a three-hour job fair with 15 engineering companies and agencies in attendance. Following the job fair was an awards dinner with guest speakers from various levels of ASCE. The awards ceremony was very eventful for the Cal Poly Pomona ASCE Student Chapter. The Student Chapter President, Alan Huynh, was awarded the Philip Abrams Scholarship and the Cal Poly Pomona ASCE Student Chapter was given the 2014 LA YMF Outstanding Student Chapter award! This was the second year in a row Cal Poly Pomona won this award.
